The Preview Show
(part of the Bushwick Open Studios event)
June 3rd - 5th, 2011

Studio H
346 Morgan Ave.
Brooklyn, NY 11211

Reception: Friday, June 3rd, 2011
6 - 11pm

STUDIO H invites you to its inaugural group exhibition, The Preview Show, featuring 15 alumni from California College of the Arts Masters of Fine Art program. Rather than showing works in their completed state, the exhibition asks both the artist and viewer to consider the work in progress, or particular moments of pause in the creative process.

For The Preview Show, artists were asked to take a step back from one of their current unfinished projects and to create a proposal from the perspective of the mid-point of their endeavor. It is common for an artist to reflect on a work in progress, stopping to consider its direction, weaknesses, and successes. However, the act of formally proposing, summarizing, or justifying (often in the form of an artist statement) typically comes either at the onset of a new work, or after its relative completion. By asking the artists to take an unplanned pause in their practice and to then create a document of this respite, there is a sense of unguarded honesty in their contributions, allowing the viewer to glimpse an intimate view, or behind the scenes look at a diverse array of creative production.
